J K Rowlings was born on the 31st July, 1965. From a young age, she wanted to become a writer. Rowlings early life was not an easy one, being unemployed and living off State benefits. Through all of this she continued to live her passion for writing which has, after many rejections, brought her to multimillionaire in 5 years.
She was diagosed with clinical depression which inspired her to create the Dementors in the Harry Potter series. She also suffers from insomnia which she puts down to working late and reading material she feels passionate about.
Rowlings worked as an English teacher in Portugal during her short marriage to television journalist Jorge Arantes, with which she had a daughter by the name of Jessica.
The pen name 'J K' was suggested to keep her identity anonymous. Her Harry Potter manuscripts were rejected by twelve publishing houses. Finally, her perseverance paid off with a small publisher giving her a chance with a small advance.
There you have it......and to date J K Rowlings......Harry Potter the best selling series in history. J K Rowlings has been awarded the order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in the year 2000.
J K Rowlings has also given to charities such as the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain and Lumos, Comic Relief and One Parent Families.
